The pilate variety is just the right one for the feet. They help provide the best of comfort while walking and There are several outdoor games for which we wear sports shoes. But pilate exercise is more or less like yoga and it is practiced in doors like in a gym. There are certain equipments to be used to tone the muscles and joints. Also there are certain exercise movements which are intense. It is obvious to think not to wear shoes as the exercises are practiced indoors and on a mat. But some people do wear the shoes as they are considered about the hygiene and cleanliness of the place.

The pros in wearing pilate shoes, it is hygienic. Many people come and stand or sit in the place where we are about to work next. We may not know the about the person who was standing in the place where we are about to work next. Also we might not be aware if they have any infectious diseases that spread. We might not know of the place if it is contaminated or not. To be on the safer side it is good to wear shoes which help to overcome fear and the feel of disgust. Though practice will be done on individual mats, wearing a shoe gives the extra protection. Anything happening on the hands can be noticed quickly but we tend to ignore the feet most of the times. Wearing shoes are beneficial for us in many ways.

Next is the seasonal effect, during winter season it might be difficult to practice without shoes on. The floor might be cold and standing barefoot on the chill ground may cause pain in the legs. Shoes can be worn during winter. We don’t have to go for winter shoes but there are certain brands that act like sports shoes with all the benefits it has but still appear like pilate shoes. Most of these shoes are allowed by the pilate instructor.

Cons of wearing shoes while doing pilate exercise

Most of the instructor advice to go on bare foot as it might be beneficial. There are certain movements in which the instructor will have to see the alignment of the foot. They tend to correct if any of the movements go wrong. Wearing the shoes covers the feet completely preventing the instructor to look at the feet and check for corrections. This is the major drawback in wearing a shoe as the instructor might not know if the legs and ankles are correctly placed on the ground and if the movements are done as per the guidelines.

Though wearing pilate shoes gives protection, to completely involve in the exercise one should go barefoot. There are certain movements that involve standing or stretching the legs on the ground. Shoes might hinder in doing those movements in an effective manner. One cannot not get the complete benefit of going on barefoot though shoes meant for pilate exercises are worn. Instructors say that doing pilates with shoes on may not be effective most of the times as they miss out on minute movements.
